Getting Started – Designing and Quoting Process

Thank you for considering us for your shed project! We encourage you to explore our website and use our online product configurator to get an initial idea of what you might be looking for. For any questions, feel free to send us an email or a message.

For the best guidance, we highly recommend reaching out to one of our shed experts. You can call us or visit our Oak Hills, CA superstore for a more personal consultation about your project. Share your location, ideas, and goals, and we’ll provide tailored advice and an accurate quote typically within a few minutes.

During our conversation, we can offer insights on local regulations and creative solutions that you might not have considered. With our 45 years of experience, we’re here to help you every step of the way. We look forward to assisting you!

Plans, Engineering, Zoning Compliance, and Building Permits

Proper planning and compliance with local regulations are crucial for a successful project. We’re here to support you through every step of the process.
  1. Building Permits:
    • Obtaining building permits is the responsibility of our clients.
    • Contact your local authorities to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
  2. Zoning and Setback Compliance:
    • Be aware that all jurisdictions have setback regulations that dictate the legal placement of your shed within your yard.
  3. Specific Requirements:
    • Some jurisdictions may have specific requirements such as concrete foundations, fire-rated construction, snow loading, or other upgrades that are not included in our base prices.
    • Discuss your local jurisdiction with us—we likely have experience in your area.
  4. Additional Services:
    • We offer plans, engineering, and permitting services at an additional cost.

How to Buy – Over the Phone or In Person

We make buying easy and convenient, whether you’re local or not.
  1. Deposit:
    • Once your project is designed and quoted, we require a small deposit to get started. This deposit also secures your delivery or build date on our calendar.
  2. Making the Deposit:
    • You can make the deposit by phone or in person.
    • If you’re not local, don’t worry! Most of our sales are completed by phone and email, so you don’t need to travel to see us unless you prefer to.
  3. Completion and Final Payment:
    • The balance of the shed project is due only upon completion, ensuring you receive a quality product before making the final payment.
    • Larger scale projects like our “permanent detached garages” will have a schedule of progress payments included in the contract. Under this structure payments are made based on milestones completed within the project.
  4. Other Purchase Options Besides Cash, Check, or Credit Card

Site Preparation

Our sheds are designed to sit on any level surface, including dirt, gravel, or concrete. Here are some key points for preparing your site:

  • Leveling the Site:
    • Clients are responsible for ensuring the building site is level.
    • While we do provide minor shimming less than 4” during installation at no additional cost, it’s important to note that shimming can make your building more prone to settling, increase the step height into and out of your building, and be less attractive than a building sitting tight to the ground. Building settling can also cause doors to not operate correctly. A little extra work leveling before your installation date will help ensure your satisfaction.
  • Consultation and Pictures:
    • Take some pictures of your job site and discuss with us what’s needed to achieve a beautiful and dependable build project.
  • Concrete Foundations:
    • Our sheds come with their own wood floor but if you choose to pour concrete, always consult us first, as we may require specific specifications depending on the build.
    • Local regulators may require certain special specifications and also require footing and forms inspections before concrete is poured. Don’t put the cart before the horse and pour your concrete too soon!
  • Site Inspections:
    • If necessary, we offer free site inspections to guide you through correct site preparation.
    • Proper site preparation is crucial for a successful build. Reach out and let’s chat to help ensure your site is ready for your new shed.
